Music Mag Name fonts and designs

These are a set of fonts for my logo name for my Music Magazine. I'm currently trying to decide which ones i like, If you have a favorite, Please let me know in the posts. Thank you.

Color pallet for music magazine.

This is the set of colors i have chosen for my music magazine in terms of pallet. I have decided to use only a select few of these options i have discovered on Adobe Color software.

Red Hot Revelation is a  beautiful set of reds that i would like to use in my magazine to highlight something of importance and make it stand out. Given that red is often associated with rock and happens to be my favorite color, I will take great joy in using it.

Blue flame. The name is relevant to the theme of rock in many ways. Somewhat of a burning sensation is often associated with Heavy metal, However the subtlety of blue makes it a little more comforting.

Blue sun is a pretty color pallet that perfectly blends in with black and can often even relate to the theme of having 'a cold heart'.

Crimson can relate to a great deal of themes. Blood being one of them. Rock music can be used to express emotions such as happiness, sadness, pain or even suffering. This color will be used on my front cover to further express this as a meaning.

The phoenix fire is a legendary thing.A bird of fire (linking to any heavy emotion connotation of rock as well as new songs and hits setting the world on fire with excitement) whom's legend extends beyond that stars, Though mythical it may be, It symbolizes rock in a way that demonstrates that it will always be around in the same way a Phoenix fire can never be put out.

Grey scale, The assumptions that rock is all darkness, gloom and doom is not always true. It can often celebrate happiness and other positive emotions such as love. However, Black is a color of emptiness 'oh its all gloom and doom' But have you ever thought of the positive connotations of black?

For women, It is a very slimming color. Think about that...

Red and black, Colors often shown in the rock world with negative hellish connotations. However, I choose to use this color set in both a positive and negative way. I will use it to show the empty darkness, BUT, it will show the symbolism of love. How?
The red rose. It is an object of love.  A symbol of it. A symbol of romance. Its a very positive flower and beautiful to look at.

Bands such as Bullet for My Valentine shows this. How? Well they are a heavy rock/metal group but it isn't all gloom and doom. Their logo includes roses. What connotations would you use for this rose?

Final draft of Music Magazine.

These are my final outcome sketches of my planning for music mag cover, contents page, and cover story double page spread.

Media research, conventions that interested me.

House style of animation used in a photographic sense. An image taken and edited to fit into the cartoon theme.

Anime convention fits in with the realistic image to bring up something new and unique in terms of themes. I plan on using this kind  of convention when making my music mag.

College magazine contents

This is my college mag contents page I have created using Photoshop CS 4. my final outcome design after a lot of planning has come out more successful then I had hoped.

Magazine planning images for front cover/ contents

This image I drew could possibly be used for my music mag as I will be taking a cartoon approach to add a twist to my magazine. So how does this relate to rock? I deliberately drew him with a creepy smile to express a psychotic emotion on his face. this links with rock on an emotional lever as it is seen to have such emotion connotations as Anger, Rage, Frustration and Psychotics.
However, Those emotional are only really seen in the world of Heavy Metal.
In the world of 'normal' rock, All emotions can apply, Even happiness and sadness can apply as demonstrated through songs written by Three Days Grace.

Music mag research images.

As a part of my music research task so that I can make my own music Mag, I have looked at the layout of other mags. The following images are that of 'classic rock' mag and contains the front cover, contents page and cover story.

Contents page consists of page numbers and story headings. this follows the house style of BOLD vs small font. The color pallet has been set and should stay the same through out the mag.

The first page of the magazine cover story. Upon looking at it, You see how the image takes up 2/3 of the double page spread. It relates to the text typed in BOLD. 'RUNAWAY TRAIN' is a simple linked reference to the image as the band members are standing on a set of train tracks in the middle of nowhere. The house style of BOLD vs small font remains as a house theme and the color pallet of black white, Brandie and brown/blue still remains. The sunset in the background also helps to bring out a variety of different shades and variation within the color pallet.

Alter Bridge have their own logo, that is constantly shown throughout the cover story. The house style is still followed as accurately as the previous page, and has a new feature which is a message box with the spoken words of one of the band members followed by their name. each double page of the cover story focuses on each of the members as well as their played instrument. The image follows up on the color pallet and stays with the theme of music as each band member's picture is nicely set up, But group pictures are taken within a professional music room.

Rock...

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has its roots in 1940s' and 1950s' rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources.
Musically, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar and drums. Typically, rock is song-based music usually with a 4/4 time signature using a verse-chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.

Rock music has also embodied and served as the vehicle for cultural and social movements, leading to major sub-cultures including mods and rockers in the UK and the hippie counterculture that spread out from San Francisco in the US in the 1960s. Similarly, 1970s punk culture spawned the visually distinctive goth and emo subcultures. Inheriting the folk tradition of the protest song, rock music has been associated with political activism as well as changes in social attitudes to race, sex and drug use, and is often seen as an expression of youth revolt against adult consumerism and conformity

AUDIENCE TERMINOLOGY

Selected audience for rock split into three categories:
Socio-economic
Psycho-graphic
Demographic

I will first of all focus on Socio-economic.
Socio economic category- C1-E
Why?
Teachers, Anyone of the norm class…People who go through everyday problems who may not have all the money they need in life. Normal people.
Anyone of the A-C category such as doctors may also listen to this due to lifestyle or music preferences they have found whilst growing up.

Second focus- Psycho-Graphic.
Psycho-graphic audience possibly all.
Succeeds may just like the music as it makes them feel better during the course of their day.
Aspires Want a better life and may listen t this as a way out of reality, and a way for them to think of what ways they can better their lives.
Carers- Social conscience? Maybe not. This type of music may not appeal to them directly.
Main-streamers,  People who want to be more like others may just listen for inspiration.
Individualists, People who prefer to be different may like this genre because it appeals to  their likes as they grow up.

Thirdly- Focus on Demographics.
Who would like this and why?
Things that need to be thought about, Age…What age would this appeal to?
Ages 15+?
Who would listen to rock?
Well by my opinion, It depends on the person and what kind of rock they like.
Different types of rock appeal to different people with many different lifestyles.

Rock ‘n Roll

Elvis Presley, Appeal to those who just love his music, People born in the 1950’s and after. It interests them.

Rock

Bullet for my Valentine, Appeal to those who like rock but not too heavy but not Elvis at all. This is just straight forward rock that may be considered as a lifestyle POV and an interest and preference. I personally like it because it links in with my personality and interests as I like to express myself in a manner of ways.
Heavy metal, Those who are depressed and see life as a negative, Those who enjoy pain. This kind of music represents their feelings and suffering in a certain respect. It can link to social class, Interests or National I identity. In terms of social matters, It tends to link in with those of category E, Mainstreams and Individualists.

College magazine front cover

I have also done a front page and have followed up on the themes suggested and requested of me in the questionnaire survey.

Overall I think the iage needs to be worked on, But I'll have to let it slide because its only a preliminary task. For the main music mag task I will have photos that do not include a backdrop, and the person in the photo will be wearing dark clothes. this way, the sell lines will be easier to read because you can see them better.

I will have to do a lot more research in order to create something that is unique and i can call my own. Over all It was successful. Asking around, I have found out that this is quite liked by not only my peers, But everyone I have shown it to. I can only hope I do a better job next time.

Music mag Analysis

College magazine questionnaire analysis

Question no.1 results analysis shows me that students have listed college gossip as their no. 1 must see. Followed by other terms and topics, School subjects and local news seem to be the least cared for. Students don’t like to beat around the bush; my survey shows that they would prefer a straight to the point mag.

Other question results:

Others are classed as ‘Music teens listen to today and what influences them’ most common responses to music genre seem to lie within the Rap and Hip hop sector.
Other than Music influential Purposes, There is a mention of wanting to know 10 reasons why subjects are loved or hated. Informality is preferred. Music topics will have to vary because each individual might not relate to one topic of music.

I have noticed that some students would like a straight to the point mag, But some actually like a slightly witty response.
Colours of a magazine are preferred to be seen as a more masculine follow up, however they have a effeminate touch. Aqua based colours seem to be the most common of colour preferences.

Some anomalies responses have a requirement for latest football news. (Arsenal related)
College criticisms are admired.
One person in my survey, who has found my web link has kindly answered and have requested I mention the latest games and Economical issues. I may choose to follow up on that as I’m a ‘gamer’ myself.
Another anonymous person has requested I follow up on sports, dance, music, anime and manga. I am happy to follow this up as it related to a variety of student nowadays including me.

When I asked how people prefer to study, It has often been mentioned that they either, Don’t study, Listen to loud music whilst studying or studying with friends opposed to the norm of studying in a quiet area.

Yet another anonymous user has answered my survey requesting that I talk about design arts and whats going on, as well as local transport and school timings. Looking at the answers, I don’t think students are happy with the time school starts and the amount of work/ homework given.

Many of my answers come from people 14-16, with a rare show of some older than 16 and one older than 20.

Over all I have learned that many people who would read a college mag would prefer to read something out of the normal college conversation and would rather something completely to do with home hobbies and how they lead their life through college with their hobby aspiration.
Music and gossip is a widely requested topic followed by reasons why topics are loved and hated. Gaming and manga shall be mentioned within the hobby category and school timings will be spoken about as well as local transport. Thanks to 7 contributors, I have learned what many people prefer in a college mag.

College mag images

I may use this image in my college mag contents page because it is of relevance to one of my sell lines; Gossip. This image is of a socializing kind and shows the friendly relationship between sixth form students.

This image is a mid shot of two sixth form students who are very friendly and easy to approach. It is a clear image and I could use it in the contents page to represent my school and its sixth form center.

I may not use this image in my contents because its more of an image to project a fashion statement. My mag isnt for fashion so I will not be using it as it is not relevant to my main targets for this mag.

Clear image of a student in full school uniform is just what i need as a representative of the school, and what students are like within the confines of the building.

The school library full of main-school students working is a perfect example of showing what students are like and how they act as well as their personalities. How they act and dress is a result of inspiration which is a main topic within my mag and therefore will be in the contents age.

The school sixth form study zone. How organised are you as a student? This image will help link school subject matter and how it works as well as student requirements.

Trophies, Student awards and whole school awards! Its simply amazing! But will not be used as sports is not a main concern in my mag.

Socialising within the canteen shows that gossip is everywhere. This image is a consideration.

College mag pending cover planning.

This is a college mag pending cover i have created using Microsoft paint software. It may or may not be used in  future but its nice to have an idea of a general outcome.

Bleach Movies 1-3

The value of a friend is important to anyone in this world." In reference to my request in college mag, I will also add the first, second and third movie for you all to enjoy."
What do I like about them?

In my college mag, A question was asked, What would you like to see in the mag? 'Aspirations' was a strong subject answer and so I share mine with you.

Fade to Black: The importance of friendship is important and so is your memory. How does this movie aspire you? It aspires me to hold my friends close and my memories closer. There is a stereotype of friendship and strength and strive to protect each other through hardship. I upload this movie in relevance to what influences people today.

Diamond Dust Rebellion: Have you ever had an old friend that you've lost for some reason or other? A family member perhaps? Never give up on them. This movie shows the relevance of strength and to help others, And this movie reminds me that I need to fight to protect the friends i have today, instead of forget about them later on.

Memories of Nobody: I'd evaluate this movie to be the same principle as the first. Follow me and tell me how these movies influence you.

A montage of contents I liked.

the above are all contents within a magazine that need to be implicated within my mag. this includes sell lines, images (clear or abstract) a clear list of contents, issue number, date, bar-code, logo and website. I liked the way each of these were set up within different mags and may borrow the idea to use when it comes to the construction of my Music Mag.

So why did I choose these?
Its simple. Everything has its own house style that just draw my eye to them. I may actually try to replicate these styles and make them my own by changing them a little to my suiting.

College magazine survey...I need the hand of the community to tell me...

This is a link to a survey  I am conducting in order to create a magazine.
I conducted a survey using surveymonkey.com in hopes of finding out my target audience and what they would like to see In a Magazine.

He'res the link so you all can take the survey. I hope you all can help me! Thanks!

Media pending cover...

I'm hoping to use this as a probable cover to my magazine.

Contents page conventions.

Bleach Hell Verse (Movie 4)

I thought this was a wonderful movie and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
In response to my survey, someone has requested that I do a Manga page, I feel this is relevant to the interests of others and myself and is an interesting form of media. I like the story of the movie and how it shows the responsibility of an older brother doing what he can to help his friends and sisters.
You don't have to have watched the TV series of Bleach nor do you have to watch the previous three movies.
