These are pending fonts I am thinking of using for my Music Magazine. They could be used for the front cover, cover page or contents page. Either way, Its a style that stands out

Draft of cover page PPT
These are draft images on a style/ set out for my music mag cover page. It follows the theme of rock but also has its own unique house style.
Photoshoot
I chose these photo’s because of the
connotations they hold relating to rock whether they be dominant of challenging
representations.
Poses: The poses chosen are specific
towards the topic of rock, whether it’d be classic or new age, There is always
a way to show its representation. For example, In the photo with Tom Cruise and
Russell Brand, They show a dominant representative connotation of rock through
the hand gesture. Its common upon the rock genre.
As a response to this, I have asked my
models to use the same hand gestures in the hopes it would show the audience
the representation intended.
Gorillaz research for my music mag
Gorillaz are an English virtual band created in
1998 by Damon Albarn and
Jamie Hewlett. This band is fronted by four animated members: 2D (lead vocals,
keyboard, and melodica), Murdoc Niccals
(bass guitar and drum machine), Noodle (guitar, keyboard, and backing vocals)
and Russel
Hobbs (drums and percussion). These members are completely fictional and are
not personas of any "real life" musicians involved in the project. Their
fictional universe is explored through the band's website and music videos, as
well as a number of other media, such as short cartoons. The music is a
collaboration between various musicians, with Albarn being the only permanent musical
contributor. Their style is an amalgamation of genres, with influences
including rock, alternative, Britpop, trip hop, hip hop, electronica, indie, dub, reggae
and pop.
The band's 2001 debut album Gorillaz sold
over seven million copies and earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of
World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize in
2001, but the nomination was later withdrawn at the band's request. Their
second studio album, Demon Days, released in 2005, went five times platinum in
the UK, double
platinum in the United States, earned five Grammy Award nominations for 2006 and
won one of them in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category. The
band has won numerous other awards, including two MTV Video Music Awards, an
NME Award, three MTV Europe Music Awards, and have been nominated for nine Brit
Awards. The
combined sales of the Gorillaz and
Demon Days albums had exceeded 15 million by 2007. The band's third studio album, Plastic
Beach, was released in March 2010. Their latest album, The Fall, was released
in December 2010 as a free download for fan club members, then in April 2011 as
a physical release.
So how does this reate to
my subject matter of Rock magazine? I wish to use the idea of animation in my
magazine to create a unique house style. The way I will do it will be to gather
photos I have taken, And re-draw them in an animated style to make my mag interestin g,
different and appealing to the eye. My aim is not only to attract the rockers,
But to attract those out there who love anime too! Making a manga edition would
be interesting and fun for me, But will also relate to my exemplar band choice
of the gorillaz
which use animation to put fourth their music.

Music Mag Name fonts and designs
These are a set of fonts for my logo name for my Music Magazine. I'm currently trying to decide which ones i like, If you have a favorite, Please let me know in the posts. Thank you.
Color pallet for music magazine.
This is the set of colors i have chosen for my music magazine in terms of pallet. I have decided to use only a select few of these options i have discovered on Adobe Color software.
Red Hot Revelation is a beautiful set of reds that i would like to use in my magazine to highlight something of importance and make it stand out. Given that red is often associated with rock and happens to be my favorite color, I will take great joy in using it.
Blue flame. The name is relevant to the theme of rock in many ways. Somewhat of a burning sensation is often associated with Heavy metal, However the subtlety of blue makes it a little more comforting.
Blue sun is a pretty color pallet that perfectly blends in with black and can often even relate to the theme of having 'a cold heart'.
Crimson can relate to a great deal of themes. Blood being one of them. Rock music can be used to express emotions such as happiness, sadness, pain or even suffering. This color will be used on my front cover to further express this as a meaning.
The phoenix fire is a legendary thing.A bird of fire (linking to any heavy emotion connotation of rock as well as new songs and hits setting the world on fire with excitement) whom's legend extends beyond that stars, Though mythical it may be, It symbolizes rock in a way that demonstrates that it will always be around in the same way a Phoenix fire can never be put out.
Grey scale, The assumptions that rock is all darkness, gloom and doom is not always true. It can often celebrate happiness and other positive emotions such as love. However, Black is a color of emptiness 'oh its all gloom and doom' But have you ever thought of the positive connotations of black?
For women, It is a very slimming color. Think about that...
Red and black, Colors often shown in the rock world with negative hellish connotations. However, I choose to use this color set in both a positive and negative way. I will use it to show the empty darkness, BUT, it will show the symbolism of love. How?
The red rose. It is an object of love. A symbol of it. A symbol of romance. Its a very positive flower and beautiful to look at.
Bands such as Bullet for My Valentine shows this. How? Well they are a heavy rock/metal group but it isn't all gloom and doom. Their logo includes roses. What connotations would you use for this rose?

Final draft of Music Magazine.
These are my final outcome sketches of my planning for music mag cover, contents page, and cover story double page spread.
Media research, conventions that interested me.
House style of animation used in a photographic sense. An image taken and edited to fit into the cartoon theme.
Anime convention fits in with the realistic image to bring up something new and unique in terms of themes. I plan on using this kind of convention when making my music mag.

Magazine planning images for front cover/ contents
This image I drew could possibly be used for my music mag as I will be taking a cartoon approach to add a twist to my magazine. So how does this relate to rock? I deliberately drew him with a creepy smile to express a psychotic emotion on his face. this links with rock on an emotional lever as it is seen to have such emotion connotations as Anger, Rage, Frustration and Psychotics.
However, Those emotional are only really seen in the world of Heavy Metal.
In the world of 'normal' rock, All emotions can apply, Even happiness and sadness can apply as demonstrated through songs written by Three Days Grace.

Music mag research images.
As a part of my music research task so that I can make my own music Mag, I have looked at the layout of other mags. The following images are that of 'classic rock' mag and contains the front cover, contents page and cover story.
Contents page consists of page numbers and story headings. this follows the house style of BOLD vs small font. The color pallet has been set and should stay the same through out the mag.
The first page of the magazine cover story. Upon looking at it, You see how the image takes up 2/3 of the double page spread. It relates to the text typed in BOLD. 'RUNAWAY TRAIN' is a simple linked reference to the image as the band members are standing on a set of train tracks in the middle of nowhere. The house style of BOLD vs small font remains as a house theme and the color pallet of black white, Brandie and brown/blue still remains. The sunset in the background also helps to bring out a variety of different shades and variation within the color pallet.
Alter Bridge have their own logo, that is constantly shown throughout the cover story. The house style is still followed as accurately as the previous page, and has a new feature which is a message box with the spoken words of one of the band members followed by their name. each double page of the cover story focuses on each of the members as well as their played instrument. The image follows up on the color pallet and stays with the theme of music as each band member's picture is nicely set up, But group pictures are taken within a professional music room.

A montage of contents I liked.
So why did I choose these?
Its simple. Everything has its own house style that just draw my eye to them. I may actually try to replicate these styles and make them my own by changing them a little to my suiting.
